AFRICAN PLAINS
|
Here you'll find the giraffe (the tallest
living creature) and the zebra (a wild horse that boasts a white
body with black stripes). Other animals you'll find here include
several other species of antelope such as the scimitar horned Oryx,
beisa Oryx, eland, ellipsis water buck, addax, sable antelope and
blackbuck, plus birds such as the marabou stork and East African
crown crane.

AMERICAN SECTION

|
This 42-acre section is home to several species
native to the Americas, primarily North America. Here you'll find
Roosevelt elk, white-tailed deer, white elk, fallow deer, American
bison, llamas and rheas.
|
|
ANUBIS BABOON
|
The Anubis Baboon is a very social animal
living in troops of up to 80 with the largest and strongest male
being dominant. They live in rocky gores and steep hillsides of
South Africa where they feed on insects, fruit, grains and other
small animals. The Baboons bare young after a gestation period of
6-7 months. The baby is carried by the mother for several weeks
until it is able to venture short distances by itself.

AUSTRALIAN SECTION
|
Australia is known for its wide variety of
unusual animals, the most famous of which is the kangaroo. The
kangaroo is the largest marsupial (an animal that carries its
young in a pouch). In our Wild Safari, we have two types of
kangaroo - the Red Kangaroo and the Wallaroo.

BIRD SANCTUARY
|
The spongy marshland provides a natural bog for
the variety of birds, ducks, mallards and geese that frolic in
these watery surroundings.
|
|
BISON
|
The Bison is found throughout the United States
and Canada. It is a massive animal weighing up to 3,000lbs. with
a huge head and forequarter. The shaggy coat is a dark brown
turning lighter towards the hind quarters and the horns are very
short and up curved. On 5/19/96 a bison was born weighing 40lbs.

BLACK BEAR

|
The American black bear is the smallest of all
bears found in the wooded areas of North America. All Through the
summer, the black bear feeds on fish, berries and fruit in order
to prepare for its winter hibernation in hollow trees and caves.

ELEPHANT SECTION


|
This section features the African elephant (the
largest land mammal in the world); the white rhinoceros
(generally, a peaceful animal); and the ostrich (the largest
living bird).

EUROPEAN BROWN BEAR



|
The European Brown Bear can reach a length of
6-7 feet from the tip of his nose to the end of his 2 inch tail,
and weigh 500-700 lbs. They come from the windier parts of Europe
and northern Asia where in autumn they accumulate fat in
preparation for the winter hibernation.

GIRAFFE SECTION

|
The Giraffe is the tallest of all animals and
can reach a height of 18 feet to the top of the head and weigh up
to 2,000 lbs. Giraffes are from the dry Savannah areas of Africa.
The gestation period for the giraffe is 14-15 months. The calf can
stand 5-6 feet tall at birth and weigh over 100 lbs. Even though
the giraffe's neck is much longer than ours, it still contains the
same number of neck vertebrae as a human which is 7.

LION SECTION |
This is Lion Country! The lion inhabits the
open country and scrub thickets of Africa. The male can reach a
length of 9 ft. (including 3 ft. of tail), and stands about 4 ft.
at the shoulder. At maturity, it weighs an average of 400lbs.

|
MONKEY JUNGLE
|
This is the most active and popular section in
our Wild Safari because its residents are curious, unpredictable
and very social creatures. Our Monkey Jungle is home to the Anubis
baboons, also known as old world monkeys. Full-grown baboons are
very powerful and aggressive. For your safety, please keep your
windows closed!

MORE NEW ADDITIONS
|
The Wild Safari Animal Park has other new
additions for Guests to enjoy - baby elk, white elk calves,
white-tail deer fawns, African antelopes, scimitar horned Oryx calves, kangaroos,
bison's, and llamas. Baby baboons will make
their arrival in the near future.

SHEEP / GOAT SECTION |
This section is home to the Aoudad, also known
as Barbary sheep, that originated in the rough and rocky coast of
North America. Here, you'll also find the dromedary camel (a
one-humped camel found in the desert regions of Arabia and
neighboring countries). Asian water buffalo can be found
frolicking in the pond.

TIGER SECTION
|
This section features two species of tigers -
Siberian tigers and several rare white Bengal tigers, including
triplet white tiger cubs born in September 1994. The white tiger,
which originated in India, weighs more than an ordinary orange
Bengal tiger and is quite rare. In fact, only 200 white tigers are
known to exist in the world! The white tiger s coat results from a
genetic trait that is passed down from tiger to tiger. The
Siberian tiger is found in the cold and snowy forests of northern
Manchuria and southeast Siberia. It has a beautiful long, woolly
orange coat with black stripes. The Siberian tiger is the largest
of all the big cats, reaching a length of 13-14 feet and a weight
of 650 pounds.
